The Piscis Austrinus constellation

PsA · Catalogue stars: 9

Why this name?

Piscis Austrinus is a separate celestial fish south of Aquarius. Charts often depict it drinking the water flowing from Aquarius’s vessel.

A little history

Ptolemy described the constellation. The name of its brightest star, Fomalhaut, comes from the Arabic for ‘mouth of the fish’, preserving the figure on old charts.
